BREAKING: Building collapsed and killed two persons in Kano.

In the Kano metropolitan region of the State, a three-story building at the GSM Market fell, killing two people, one of them was a Kano Electricity Distribution Company employee.

The three-story building collapsed on Tuesday evening while the market was still open for business, trapping at least 10 people, according to sources.

Emergency responders, including members of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the National Emergency Management Agency, the Kano State Fire Service, and the police, were summoned to the scene to rescue the victims.

Nine people were saved during the operation and taken to Kano’s Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for emergency care. First responders also discovered the victim’s body.

According to Musa Abdullah, the secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in Kano, one of the rescued victims passed away while receiving medical care in the hospital. The disaster also claimed the life of a KEDCO employee.

The secretary reportedly stated that “a worker of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company, who was trying to disconnect the building from the high tension became stuck and perished on the spot.”

In a statement, Manzo Ezekiel, the director of the National Emergency Management Agency, said that some of the injured people had received medical care and been released.

According to Manzo, NEMA promptly sent emergency personnel to the area for the rescue operations after being informed of the situation.

The injured were identified as Naziru Abdulkadir, 24, Magaji Abubakar, 27, Abdurauf Muhammad, 38, and Minjibir Ibrahim, 46, as well as Ahmad Buhari Haruna, 16, Sadiq Haruna, 19, Abdurashid Basiru, 36, and Danladi Lawan, 29 by Saminu Abdullahi, the Kano Fire Service’s public relations officer in response to the news.
