Niger’s military rulers have announced the reopening of the country’s airspace to all commercial flights.

TrackNews Media reports that this is nearly a month after it was closed following a coup.

The transport ministry spokesperson said on Monday that the airspace was reopened after consultations with the relevant authorities.

The airspace was closed on August 6, after the military seized power in a coup that ousted President Mohamed Bazoum. The junta said it closed the airspace to prevent a possible military intervention by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The junta has promised to hold elections soon.
