The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has just declared a significant shift in its examination methodology, revealing the adoption of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode for the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

The announcement, made by Moyosola Adesina, the acting head of the Public Affairs Unit of WAEC, marks a groundbreaking development in the conduct of examinations.

According to the statement released on Monday, this innovative approach will commence with the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates scheduled for February 2024.

The examination body said transitioning from the traditional Paper and Pencil Test to Computer-Based Examination (CBE) aligns with global best practices.

This move by WAEC follows in the footsteps of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, which transitioned its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination to the CBT mode earlier.

The shift is expected to address challenges posed by the nature of the examination, including the multitude of subjects and practical components.
