The Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government has kicked against the coup that was carried out in the early hours of Monday, 25th October, 2021.
Tracknews Online reports that the government made its feeling known in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Recall that armed soldiers on Monday declared a state of emergency, dissolved the leaders of the country, detained some leaders in the country and announced the formation of a new government.
Reacting in a statement signed by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esther Sunsuwa, the federal government ordered the immediate reinstatement of Sudan’ s transitional government.
The statement read, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria strongly condemns the coup d’etat that has taken place today in Sudan, in which the military has dissolved the civilian component of the transitional government and arrested its leaders.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls for the immediate release of the Prime Minister and all other political prisoners and an immediate restoration of the transitional government and implementation of the agreed roadmap to return the country to constitutional democracy.”
It was gathered that Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok was taken into custody by soldiers after an unknown team of soldiers stormed his residence.
This new development has raised fears of yet another military coup in a country rocked by political turmoil.
According to local media reports, armed soldiers have held five ministers, including four military members and one civilian, of the Transitional Sovereignty Council.
