Buhari Must Leave Sunday Igboho Alone, Tackle Herdsmen – Femi Falana

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has asked the Muhammadu Buhari-led government to leave popular Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho Adeyemo, alone.

In a statement to newsmen on Sunday, the constitutional lawyer pointed out that the country is facing a lot of issues that need urgent attention.

He said instead of asking the police to arrest Igboho and possibly detain him, the Buhari administration should take urgent steps to address the allegations of lopsided appointments and violent attacks on farmers by armed herdsmen.

He said the Buhari administration should confront the worsening insecurity in the country, stressing that the war on counter-insurgency should be extended to armed herdsmen and bandits.

In other news, the Aare ona kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, to redeploy the Oyo state Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Ngozi Onadeko.

Recall that the Oyo State Police Command had arrest and charged three members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) for arresting notorious Fulani warlord Iskilu Wakili and allegedly burning down a house with a woman inside.

Three members of the OPC Awodele Adedigba, Dauda Kazeem, and Hassan Ramon are currently in detention on six counts of conspiracy, arson and murder.

In a statement, on Sunday, by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Aderemi, Gani Adams blamed the Oyo CP for her roles in the detention of the three members.

He said, “Last week, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, expressed concern at the spate of insecurity in the state. Kabiesi lamented that over 70 percent of farmers in Oke Ogun, Ibarapa and its environs could no longer go to their farms because of the fear of being kidnapped and killed by bandits and criminal Fulani herdsmen.

“From what Kabiesi had said, it is no doubt that there is impending danger lurking around the state. If farmers couldn’t go to their farms, then there would be famine and shortage of food in the State.

“I am appealing to IGP Adamu and the police service commission to redeploy the Oyo CP.”
