Former Côte d’Ivoire forwarder and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has congratulated Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala for winning 2023 CAF men’s and women’s Player of the Year award.

Osimhen became the first Super Eagles player to be crowned Africa men’s Player of the Year after Nwankwo Kanu in 1999.

Also, he is the fifth Super Eagles player after the late Rashidi Yekini, Emmanuel Amuneke, Nwankwo Kanu and Victor Ikpeba to win the award.

For Oshoala, it is a record-extending sixth CAF women’s Player of the Year.

Drogba, a winner of the CAF men’s Player of the Year in 2006 and 2009 wrote on X:“Long live the new King and Queen of Africa @victorosimhen9, @asisat_oshoala @caf_online. Congratulations my Nigerian People, we are waiting for you in January.”

In other categories, Chiamaka Nnadozie won the award for Best Goalkeeper and Nigeria was named Best Women’s National Team.
