A Kano State Magistrates’ Court 57, presided over by Magistrate Haulat Magaji Kankarofi, has given an explicit order for the prison authorities in Kano to retain some three middle-age men who conspired to sell a 19-year-old boy, Adamu Buba, at the cost of N15m.

Haulat gave the order yesterday, when the three suspects, who hail from Filaya village in Shagom Local Government Area of Gombe State, were paraded before her in connection with the case mentioned above.

According to the prosecutor, one of the suspects, who was identified as Ibrahim Umar, is the biological father of the boy, Adamu Buba, whose mother died some years ago and the father decided to sell him for N15m.

It was gathered that the man was lured into the shoddy deal by a friend of his, Umar Musa who, together with an accomplice, one Adamu Bitrus, who lived at Kwanar Huguma in Takai local government area of Kano State, convinced him to allegedly sell one of his children to prospective buyers and solve the myriad of domestic problems facing him

However, after the father of the boy agreed on the terms and condition of the business, he allegedly went and brought two of his sons out of the 16 of them and travelled all the way from Gombe to Kwanar Huguma in Kano State with the intention of selling one of them having convinced him that there was employment on a farm where they would be paid daily.

When the father was asked why he brought two of his sons instead of one for sale, he answered that, “the presence of the second son would enable the one to be sold to feel comfortable till the prospective buyers come late in the night to take him away.”

When asked about how he felt over his unbecoming action, he said that he regretted his steps and blamed whatever happened on his close friend, Umar Musa, who deceived him to sell his biological son to end his life travail.

The case, as highlighted by Judge Haulat Magaji Kankarofi, runs contrary to section 95 and 97 of the Penal Code. Hence, she instructed a prison official, one Aminu Balang, to go and remand them pending the determination of the case.

She then adjourned the case to 13 November 2018 for continuation of hearing
