Yobe State Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control has revealed that the State has so far recorded 316 confirmed cases of the virus across the State.

Out of the total number of confirmed cases, 9 patients have died from the virus.

The Committee’s Chairman and State Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana gave the revelation at the 18th meeting of COVID-19 Prevention and Control Committee held on Tuesday.

“The Committee is happy to announce that Yobe State has received its share of the Astra-zeneca COVID-19 vaccines for the first phase targeting front line workers, other health works, non-health front line workers such as the members of the security agencies and gatekeepers such as traditional, religious and political leaders.

“Official flag-off of vaccination exercise was carried out by His Excellency the Executive Governor of Yobe state, Hon. Mai Mala Buni on the 28th of March, 2021”, he said.

Gubana added that the Committee after extensive deliberations affirmed that the COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective as certified by NAFDAC and other relevant regulatory bodies.

“Disregard all myths and misconceptions from the social media about COVID-19 and other health issues; always ask experts for evidence-based scientific information”, he advised.

The Committee Chairman also called for strict adherence to all approved non-pharmaceutical preventive measures.

In the same vein, Vice Chairman of the Committee and Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Dr. Mohammed Lawan Gana informed members of the committee that no far more than 21,000 targeted persons have been inoculated against the virus.

He said there is no reported case of adverse effect of the vaccine since the exercise commenced, noting that more VIPs had continued to make themselves available for the vaccination as evident during the committee’s 18th meeting.

Gana maintained that the vaccination exercise is free and ongoing in all the 17 LGAs and 178 wards in the State.
