Court Revokes Ushie’s Bail Over Grandstanding Video in Fraud Trial
In a significant development in the ongoing N35 million fraud trial involving businessman and politician Ericbona Ushie, the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, has revoked the bail previously granted to him. This decision by Justice O.O. Abike-Fadipe came after a viral video surfaced on social media showing Ushie grandstanding in his house, despite being expected to be in custody.
Ericbona Ushie is facing charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), including stealing, obtaining under false pretense, and forgery, among others, amounting to N35,397,000. Despite pleading not guilty to these charges, the court had granted him bail pending further proceedings.

However, during a recent session at the Special Offences Court, the prosecution presented a video in which Ushie was seen boasting from the comfort of his home, contradicting the terms of his bail. In the video, Ushie appeared relaxed, seated at his dining table, and denying ever being arrested or detained.
Upon viewing the video, Justice Abike-Fadipe expressed astonishment and immediately revoked Ushie’s bail. The court further ordered that he be remanded in prison custody until June 20, 2024, when the defense is expected to respond to the video evidence presented by the prosecution.
This latest development underscores the seriousness with which the court is handling the case, emphasizing the importance of adhering to bail conditions and maintaining the integrity of legal proceedings. Ushie’s trial has attracted significant attention due to the nature of the allegations against him, and this decision marks a significant turn in the proceedings.
