Impeached Benue speaker, Terkimbi Ikyange, his deputy, James Okefe, and majority leader, Benjamin Adanyi, has been ordered to appear before a high court in Makurdi to explain why they shouldn’t be sent to prison for contempt and violation of court order.
Ikyange and others are accused of violating a recent court order, restraining them from parading themselves as principal officers of the state assembly.
Channels TV reports that Justice Theresa Igoche gave the notice on Wednesday, August 1, in her ruling on an application brought by the 22 PDP lawmakers.
Justice Igoche also renewed the order restraining the three men from further parading themselves as principal officers of the Benue Assembly, and ordered the police to vacate the assembly complex.
Meanwhile, TRACK NEWS earlier reported that Benue state youths stormed the streets in the state capital to protest against what they described as police brutality and biasness of the police to Governor Samuel Ortom over his dispute with Senator George Akume.
The youths accused the police of partisanship in the political crisis between Ortom, Akume and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
