APPARENTLY not persuaded by the alarming trend in sexual assault, rape and human trafficking among young girls across Nigeria, a government primary school teacher in Cross River State in Southern Nigeria, has further dented the image of the country on the menace.

Emmanuel Odey, who teaches at Government Primary School, Obudu in Obudu Local Government Area of the state is said to be calming his rampaging manhood in Police custody for allegedly defiling a ten year old pupil.

Local sources say the teacher allegedly carried the minor from home on Friday morning for a sporting event at school and on his way back, took her to a farm behind the General Hospital, Obudu where he forcibly entered the little girl.

Before now, a civic group, Women At Risk International Foundation(WARIF), has been condemning the high incidence of the scourge among young girls and women in the country, pointing out that Nigeria records 10,000 of the menace daily.

WARIF Founder, Dr. Kemi Da-Silver Ibru said, ‘’in Nigeria today, the statistics tells us that one in four girls by the time she reaches 18 would have experienced at least one form of sexual assault. We are over 160 million and half of the population are women, and half of the women are under the age of 24, that’s 10,000 girls everyday that are survivors of this horrific crime. Many of them have attended multiple events and they are not aware that this problem can be addressed’’.

In the mean time, the teacher allegedly took the defiled girl from their house on the claim that she was among those picked to participate in a football match with another school.

According to sources, the girl initially did not want to go to school because they had some activities in the house. Kelvin Undiaundeye the father of the girl had this to say, ‘’the teacher took her there and then brought her back. In the process of bringing her back, he now branched and parked the bike close to one cassava farm and then dragged her there’’.

According to his testimony, it was a passerby who caught the primary school teacher in the act and allegedly dragged him to the Indi-Abebcommunity head where the youths humiliated him before calling the police.

‘’My daughter was raped by her teacher. She is in primary four in Government Primary School, Obudu. A passerby caught him and then dragged him to the Chairman of Indi-Abeb community, where he said he was sorry about the incident which my daughter also confirmed.

‘’They took her to the hospital and the medical report has proven that she was touched. The matter has been reported to the Obudu Division of the Nigeria Police. My daughter is 10 years old and we have reported the matter to the police, of which the police say they want to take her to another hospital for confirmation.

‘’He was beaten by the youths in the community and they used razor blade to scrape his head and was hung with the native handcuff. We know him as my daughter’s teacher, though he doesn’t usually come to pick my daughter to school, but that day somebody directed him to our house where he came to pick her up for the competition saying that my daughter is very sporty’’, the father said.

The Police in the area said the matter is under investigation, and that the suspect would be charged to court once investigation is concluded.
