Police go after killers of Sowore’s brother
Detectives were combing the forests in Edo to arrest the killers of Olajide Sowore, younger brother of activist Omoyele Sowore, spokesman Kontongs Bello said in Benin on Sunday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that suspected kidnappers shot dead Sowore in Okada, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state.
According to him, “It has become very necessary for the police to inform the general public that the police are on top of the situation since the incident happened yesterday (Saturday) at about 6:45a.m.
“Bush combing has started yesterday and the Commissioner of Police, Mr Philip Ogbadu, has directed that all the tactical teams and the Divisional Police in Okada join hands in combing the forest.”
But Omoyole Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) said his family was unaware of any police investigation of his brother’s killing.
In a message yesterday, Sowore said his family was not aware of any investigation by security agencies despite the Federal Government’s promise to apprehend the murderers of his brother.
Sowore’s brother was killed by gunmen on Saturday in the Okada area of Edo State.
The message reads in part: “Thank you all for reaching out with great love and kind words of consolation, support and solidarity over the tragic but still unexplained death of my dearest brother, Felix Olajide Sowore.”
“Despite the noise from Nigerian govt officials promising to ‘apprehend’ my brother’s killers, we are not aware that any security agency is carrying out rescue operations to free those purportedly abducted or investigating the identity of Jide’s murderers.
