Suspected ‘Yahoo’ Boy Kills Girlfriend Because She Refused To Give Him Crime Proceeds
Obeta John, a suspected Yahoo boy, was apprehended by Ogun State police for allegedly murdering his girlfriend Idowu Buhari for refusing to release funds paid into her account from one of his fraudulent deals.
SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, Public Relations Officer for the state police command, confirmed the situation in a statement on Tuesday, November 29.
According to him, John was apprehended after the command received a distress call that he had locked his girlfriend, an HND1 Mass Communication student at Gateway Polytech nic in Ogun State’s Saapade area, inside a room and was mercilessly beating her.
When the security guards arrived, they broke open the door and found the deceased in a pool of her own blood.
“The suspect was arrested following a distress call received at Ode-Remo divisional headquarters, that one Obeta John, who resides at No 3, Mojubade compound, Eredu Ishara, had locked his girlfriend inside his room and began beating her and hitting her head against the wall,” the PPRO said. All attempts to persuade him to open the door were futile.
“Upon receiving the distress call, CSP Fasogbon Olayemi, DPO Ode-remo division, quickly led his men to the scene, where they met the victim in a pool of her blood after forcing the door open.”
“The victim was rushed to State Hospital Ishara but was pronounced dead by the on-duty doctor.”
“During interrogation, the suspect, Obeta John, informed the police that he is an internet fraudster and that money from one of his clients was paid into the account of his deceased girlfriend, which she refused to return to him.”
