Woman sets self ablaze in Jigawa
A tragic incident has been reported in the Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State, where a 35-year-old woman named Maryam Aminu allegedly set herself on fire.
TrackNews reports that according to Mr Adamu Shehu, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state, the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday in the Gindin Dinya area of Dutse.
It was gathered that the lady accused her boyfriend of cheating on her, which reportedly made her furious.
“Although the cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained, it was alleged to be connected to a relationship with her 40-year-old boyfriend, identified as Ibrahim Haruna.
“The lady suffered second degree burns, she is currently receiving medical attention at the General Hospital, Dutse,” he said.
An eyewitness identified as Muhammad Yusif stated that she allegedly became enraged when she learned that her boyfriend had gone to see another woman.
“She is a jealous commercial sex worker living in the neighbourhood.
“The lady suspected that her boyfriend went to see another woman and attempted to commit suicide.”
In the heat of the moment, she is said to have used petrol to set herself ablaze.
Fortunately, some people in the neighborhood were able to put out the fire and rescue the victim. However, she reportedly sustained severe burns and was rushed to a hospital for medical attention.
Preliminary investigations conducted by the NSCDC indicated that the victim indeed used petrol to set herself ablaze.
