Crisis in Kwara APC as protest erupts over governorship primary

– Supporters of an APC governorship aspirant in Kwara have protested over the outcome of the party’s gubernatorial primary in the state

– They decried the abandonment of the zoning arrangement by the electoral panel which conducted the exercise

– They also alleged that agents and collation officers of their principal were threatened and treated unfairly during the primary election

Supporters of one of the governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara, Alhaji Shuaibu Yaman Abdullahi, staged a protest in Ilorin on Thursday, October 11, over the outcome of the gubernatorial primary election conducted in the state.

Addressing journalists during the protest, the director general of the Yaman Support Group, Bode Towoju, said the zoning and consensus arrangement advocated by concerned foundation members of the party was abandoned by the electoral panel that conducted the gubernatorial primary election, Daily Trust reports.

TRACKNEWS.NG gathers that he said: “It is the turn of the Kwara North to produce the next governor of the state in 2019 in the interest of fairness, equality, justice and togetherness.”

The group also wrote a letter to the APC’s National Working Committee, alleging that agents and collation officers of their principal were threatened and treated unfairly during the primary election.

The letter read in part: “Our agents and collation officers were denied copies of the result sheet at the voting centres, although collation was done at the various wards and our agent reported the result to our central monitoring and situation centre for proper update of our records.”

Meanwhile, TRACKNEWS.NG previously reported that members of the APC in Kwara state allegedly prevented the official announcement of the results of the party’s state House of Assembly, National Assembly and governorship primaries.

The aggrieved members expressed dissatisfaction over the conduct of the direct primaries held on Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6.

They accused the Chief Iyiola Oladokun-led eight-man electoral panel of keeping them in the dark as regarding the outcome of the primaries; saying that the results were neither officially collated nor released, hours after it was held.
