The Cross River State House of Assembly has suspended Bekwarra LGA Chairperson, Hon. Theresa Akwaji Ushie, for 90 days over alleged abuse of office, financial misappropriation, and highhandedness.

The decision follows a petition from 8 out of 10 Bekwarra councilors and was upheld during plenary on June 10, 2025, under Section 14(3) of the State Local Government Law.

Hon. Egbung Odama, Vice Chairman, has been directed to act in her stead while investigations by House Committees on Judiciary and Public Petition are underway.
