Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Niger/Kogi Command, has reiterated that the Federal Government’s directive on border closure is still in effect, warning smugglers and criminal elements that no one, no matter how high-placed, will be spared.

Busayo Kadejo, Customs Area Controller, Niger/Kogi Command, issued the warning yesterday while briefing journalists on the command’s achievements in the first 60 days since his return.

He stated that since taking office on August 10, 2022, he has swung into action by reorganizing and strengthening the command’s roving teams to be more result-oriented, with the result being the seizure of smuggled goods and anti-smuggling operations.

Kadejo stated that during the period under review, the command was able to record the seizure and detention of 57 different exotic cars and other vehicles, as well as the arrest, detention, and release of seven suspects on administrative bail.

Other seizures and detentions recorded at various locations within the command’s jurisdiction include 22 bags of second-hand clothing, 90 bags of fertilisers, 116 kegs of 25 litres each of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS), and 36 bags of 50 kg each of foreign parboiled rice, according to the Controller.

He emphasized that the total duty paid value for all seized items was N238.4 million, and that the command was also able to recover total revenue of more than N50 million.
