Davido Unfollows Iyabo Ojo on Instagram Following Leaked Chat Over Mohbad Controversy

Popular Nigerian singer David Adeleke, known as Davido, has unfollowed Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo on Instagram after a leaked WhatsApp conversation between the two sparked widespread controversy online.

The drama unfolded after controversial social media commentator VeryDarkMan shared screenshots of a private exchange in which Iyabo Ojo criticized Davido’s actions regarding the late singer Mohbad. In the messages, Iyabo questioned Davido’s sincerity in supporting the Justice for Mohbad campaign, accusing him of being inconsistent and performative.

Iyabo expressed disappointment that Davido continued to follow singer Naira Marley on Instagram, despite publicly aligning himself with the movement seeking justice for Mohbad. Naira Marley had previously been linked by the public to Mohbad’s personal and professional struggles before the young singer’s death.

“My problem is not even with that black whatever, it is Davido who flew down like he claimed to fight for justice, but he still dey follow Naira Marley,” Iyabo reportedly wrote in the leaked message. “That means he was chasing clout. I’m so disappointed and to think he has been saying he is the only superstar artist who stood by Mohbad. Just fake love 001.”

The harsh words appear to have struck a nerve. Shortly after the leaked chat went viral, online users noticed that Davido had unfollowed Iyabo Ojo on Instagram, signaling a possible rift between the two celebrities. However, a quick check of Instagram still showed that Iyabo Ojo continues to follow Davido’s account.

The backlash against Davido on social media has been mixed. While some fans defended his past involvement in the Justice for Mohbad movement, others echoed Iyabo’s sentiments, questioning why he would maintain social ties with figures like Naira Marley after pledging solidarity with Mohbad’s supporters.

Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, died in September 2023 under mysterious circumstances. His sudden death at just 27 years old prompted public outrage and led to widespread protests demanding a proper investigation. Many fans and activists pointed fingers at the treatment he received while under his former record label and the behavior of certain industry figures around him.

In the wake of his death, a large number of celebrities—including Davido and Iyabo Ojo—joined public campaigns calling for justice. Davido was seen attending candlelight vigils and used his platform to raise awareness about Mohbad’s case. Iyabo Ojo was also among the most vocal supporters, taking a leading role by organizing events and coordinating a WhatsApp group to help streamline advocacy efforts.

However, tensions have since grown among supporters of the movement over the sincerity and motivations of some participants. Iyabo Ojo’s recent leaked messages seem to reflect her growing disillusionment with certain individuals whom she once viewed as allies in the campaign.

In a recent interview, Iyabo revealed that she regretted pushing for the exhumation of Mohbad’s body, a decision that drew both support and criticism at the time. Her statement marked a shift in tone from her earlier activism, suggesting internal disagreements within the movement.

The Instagram fallout between Davido and Iyabo Ojo is the latest development in a story that continues to generate intense public interest. It also highlights how celebrity relationships and activism efforts can quickly become entangled with personal disputes and public scrutiny.

While neither party has made an official statement about the unfollowing or the leaked messages, the incident has reignited debate about accountability, sincerity, and the role of public figures in justice movements. For now, the silence from both Davido and Iyabo Ojo leaves fans and observers speculating on whether the fallout will deepen or quietly fade from the spotlight.
