Pregnant women at Shabbal in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe have opted to give birth at home as a community hospital in their area has since become deplorable and collapsed.

Shabbal Primary Health Center, the community inhabitants depend on for their healthcare has become so deplorable making it impossible for them to have access to healthcare delivery.

This is the situation in Shabbal community hospital even as the Gombe state government had over the decades expended a huge amount of money on healthcare delivery.

As a result of the deplorable nature of the hospital, midwives who are health workers in the community now visit pregnant women to help them put to bed at home.

Tracka, a public accountability organization that exposed the hospital, said it is so deplorable to the extent that it has no toilet, water, electricity, beds, and drugs to treat patients.

This is even as a good number of the community inhabitants depend on the deplorable hospital for their treatment.

A health worker that resides in the community and does not want his name mentioned, who spoke to MAWA-Foundation via a telephone conversation described the situation as terrible that has to be immediately improved.

He, however, disclosed that the situation of community health in Gombe state is deplorable and needs urgent government intervention.

Shabbal situation is a common experience where many citizens die as a result of the deplorable health sector.

And, often, monies meant for the provision of healthcare are misappropriated by government officials, leaving the people, particularly the poor to bear the burden of a rotten system.

MAWA-Foundation could not immediately reach out to the Gombe State government for an official response.
