The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) fined Arise Television N2 million for airing a false report about All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu.

The TV station had aired a report that the Independent National Broadcasting Commission (INEC) was looking into Tinubu’s alleged drug-related crime.

A statement purportedly issued by the INEC had gone viral on social media, but the electoral body debunked the report on Saturday, saying it was the work of miscreants. On Sunday, Arise TV apologized to Tinubu and INEC for misleading the general public.

The television station was fined N2 million for violating the broadcasting code, according to The Nation.
