Don’t Make Hasty Political Decisions, Group Warns Governor Wike

The South East Revival Group (SERG) has warned Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike not to make hasty decisions about his political future ahead of the 2023 presidential election, Track News reports.
Recall that Kayode Fayemi, Governor of Ekiti State and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), led Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to a closed-door meeting with Rivers State Governor on Friday.

The meeting has fueled speculation that Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike is planning to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement sent to Naija News and signed by its President and National Coordinator, Chief Willy Ezugwu, SERG warned that no wise politician should rush into any political move or decision during this election season.

The South-East group urged Wike to be cautious and patient in making any political decisions so that he does not lose the trust of the people he has earned over the years.

“As audacious supporters of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, one of those we consider to be outstanding in the build-up to the recently concluded Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary, we sincerely counsel the Rivers State Governor to be very cautious in making political decisions at this time,” the statement reads.

“Whether the Governor agrees or not, and despite the fact that we know he was betrayed during his party’s presidential primary, the political terrain in Nigeria is too treacherous for hasty decisions by any wise politician in the country.”

“For keen observers of political trends in Nigeria today, it is clear that the younger generation, just as they did in 2015, has largely taken control of the country’s politics ahead of the 2023 presidential election.”

“If the older generation of politicians is not careful, they will completely lose relevance as campaigns begin in the coming months.”

“It will be suicidal for any politician, like Governor Wike, who is beloved by Nigerians, to swim against the prevailing national political tides.”

“Those who redirected the country’s politics in 2015 have obviously taken a position in the current political era.”

“Nigerians had hoped for a new generation of leaders (those from the younger generation of politicians) to emerge as presidential candidates across Nigeria’s key political parties, but they were disappointed when politicians who should have retired from active politics were given presidential tickets, much to the chagrin of the country’s youth.”

“Aside from the fact that the older generation of politicians who won presidential primaries are largely viewed as corrupt and desperate by the youths, Nigerians have been in pain for the last seven years and are not eager to repeat the mistake of 2015.”

“As a result, a critical mass of disgruntled citizens, who have been on the receiving end of mishandled Nigeria’s commonwealth since 1999, which has obviously worsened in the last seven years, have now produced a candidate of their choice.”

“In light of this, only prudent politicians will look ahead to the 2023 presidential election.”

“As one of our few leaders who has so far distinguished themselves in the last seven years of misery and pains among the masses, we therefore urge Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike not to miscalculate or stand in the way of Nigerian youths.”
