Don’t undermine state refineries, focus on nation-building – Group tells Obasanjo

A civil society organization, the Movement for Anti-Corruption, Integrity, and Transparency Initiative, is calling out former President Olusegun Obasanjo for his recent comments about state-owned refineries and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL). The group believes Obasanjo’s remarks were motivated by personal grievances, particularly the reversal of refinery privatizations that occurred during his administration.

Obasanjo had previously criticized the NNPC’s invitation to visit the refineries, calling it “disrespectful” and “inappropriate”. He also accused NNPC officials of mishandling resources and perpetuating corruption, suggesting that they should be prosecuted.

The group is urging Obasanjo to focus on nation-building rather than undermining state refineries. They argue that his comments are not only unhelpful but also driven by personal interests. It’s a complex situation, and it will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
