There was drama at the Plateau Assembly complex on Tuesday morning as the reinstated Speaker of the Plateau House of Assembly, Abok Ayuba resumed office.

TrackNews gathered from The Nation that Ayuba could not gain access to his office when he got to the assembly complex on Tuesday.

It was learnt that the reinstated speaker arrived at the assembly complex at about 8 am this morning but didn’t gain access to his office till about 9:16 am as his office was under lock.

A team of youths loyal to Ayuba were said to be at the gate of the assembly threatening to deal with anyone attempting to prevent him from resuming, while another group of youths loyal to Hon Yakubu Sanda were as well mobilizing to invade the assembly complex and chase out the reinstated Speaker.

According to the report, there was a deployment of anti-riot policemen to the assembly complex along Old Bukuru bypass based on intelligence over the likelihood of violent protests.

However, no violence was recorded after Ayuba gained access to his office and as of filling this report, normalcy had returned to the Plateau assembly complex.

Recall that TrackNews reported on Monday that Ayuba was restated as the Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly by a Plateau High Court presided over by Justice M. L Musa has reinstated Abok as Speaker.

It would be recalled that Abok was impeached by the Assembly in October 2021.
However, in its judgment, Justice Musa held the submissions of the complainants that the impeachment was illegal and therefore null and void.

The Court also awarded N1.5 million as the cost of appearance and N138,000 as the cost of filing the matter against the defenders.
