Ebonyi won’t vote Peter Obi, says Umahi

Ebonyi Governor David Umahi yesterday predicted that the state will vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general election.

He spoke while swearing in five commissioners and two Special Assistants.

Also sworn in were six development centre coordinators.

The governor, elected on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform before he defected, believes the state will vote only for the APC.

He urged the people not to vote for the Labour Party.

“We will not vote for Labour Party, we will only vote for APC. Our vote is for APC and not for Labour Party. Our agenda is the Ebonyi agenda.

“We will vote for our presidential candidate in the person of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

“We must strive to liberate Ebonyi State and that is our agenda,” Umahi said.

The newly-appointed commissioners will take over from their predecessors who last month resigned to contest the 2023 general election.

Those sworn in include Celestine Nwali, expected to take over from Onyekachi Nwaebonyi as Commissioner for Capital Territory Development.

Chief Mattias Adum takes over the Ministry of Lands and Survey while Chief Romanus Nwasum is to oversee the Ministry of Infrastructural Development for Concession.

Others include Chief Chris Uchaji (Ministry of Solid Mineral Development), Mrs. Beatrice Eze (Ministry of Culture and Tourism), Chief Chuks Okoh (Special Assistant on Strategy) and Uchenna Out (Special Assistant on Transport).

The governor frowned at the low rate of voter registration in the state and directed the stakeholders to brace up and ensure that people get registered before June 30.

“Unfortunately, the different local government areas in the state are yet to witness a high turnout of voters for registration apart from Afikpo South where 71,000 have so far been registered,” he said.
