Bayelsa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Daniel Igali has attributed the impressive performance of Team Bayelsa so far at Edo 2020 National Sports Festival to the motivation from Governor Douye Diri.
Addressing Sports journalists shortly after Team Bayelsa clinched additional two gold medals from Kokowa (Traditional wrestling) at the Cultural Centre, Benin City, he stated that the governor being a one time Commissioner for Sports ensured timely release of funds to prosecute the festival.
The Commissioner also stated that team work from all stakeholders including the Deputy Governor was instrumental to the success story so far.
He expressed the hope that Team Bayelsa would finish among the top three States at the end of the Festival.
Also, the Deputy Chief Of Staff, Government House, Doctor Peter Akpe who witnessed the five Kokowa finals where the State won two gold and three silver medals, said he was satisfied with the superlative outing of Team Bayelsa,noting that the performance of the athletes has further demonstrated that talents are abound in the State.
Doctor Akpe gave an assurance that Team Bayelsa would be handsomely rewarded by the State government after the Fiesta.
