Calls For Thorough Investigation Into Bizarre

Edo State government has expressed its sadness over the 10 dead bodies discovered along the Ibillo-Lanpese Road in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area on Tuesday and, has called for a thorough investigation into the bizarre.

This is coming as the State Government also announced that following the recovery of government land at the Irhirhi-Obazagbon-Ogheghe area of the state, it was discovered that the sum of N1.5 billion was collected by land grabbers in the locality between 2020 to 2022.

Mr Chris Osa Nehikhare, the state Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, who expressed the government’s sadness on the 10 Corpses during a press briefing in Benin said the state government felt sad, especially given the ages of the deceased, which they put at between 23 to 25 years.

According to him, “the state government while appreciating the collaboration between the police and the vigilante and local hunters over the issue, has also called on the police to do a thorough investigation to unravel what led to the deaths of the 10 persons.

“It is sad especially when it was discovered that no bodily harm was noticed on their bodies. It is a very sad day and Edo State Government is not happy about it.

“So the government has ordered for an autopsy to be carried out for us to determine the cause of death and also the police should investigate to find out who they are, how they got there and what happened that you find bodies of ten young men, I think there was no sign of trauma or anything to determine how these men were killed or how they died” Nehikhare bemoaned.

Speaking on the recovery of government land in the state, the Commissioner announced that following the recovery of government land at Irhirhi-Obazagbon-Ogheghe area of the state, it was discovered that the sum of N1.5 billion was collected by land grabbers in the locality between 2020 to 2022.

individuals, adding that those already arrested and those still on the run would have their days in court, just as he vowed that Edo State Government is determined to sanitise the administration of land in the state.

“The state government is determined to retrieve that money from the suspects and restitute the victims. So far, we have arrested 10 of the land grabbers and they will soon be charged to court.

“The government is also appealing to Edo people to do due diligence on any property before commencing development.

“This includes finding out if such land is encumbered and registering their plans with the appropriate authorities. We also appreciate the support so far received from the Edo people”, Nehikhare added.

According to him, the administration of land exercise would be extended to all parts of the state
