The Edo State Government, through the Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO) and the Ease of Doing Business Secretariat, has facilitated an engagement with the private sector to leverage opportunities guaranteed by the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), according to a statement by Crusoe Osagie, the governor’s media aide.
Addressing participants at the public-private dialogue organized by ESIPO in collaboration with GIZ, Mr. Kelvin Uwaibi, Managing Director ESIPO, Ease of Doing Business Secretariat, stated that Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration is focused on promoting private sector investment and positioning investors for African dominance.
“Why are we so picky about market access?” In addition, we are preparing our country for the African Continental Free Trade Area. Trading has already begun in Ghana and Kenya. The African Continental Free Trade Area has arrived.”
As a result, we are concerned about the manufacturing sector as a state. We want Edo State to be competitive so that we can export Edo products to other countries.
“To be blunt, if we want any economy to grow, we must look to the private sector.” They must take the lead in order to move the economy forward. We have no choice but to collaborate with the private sector if we are to ensure the viability of the state’s economy. That is Edo State’s overarching goal.”
Blessing Ajimoti, Edo State GIZ-SEDEN State Coordinator, stated that GIZ is interested in assisting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in a variety of ways, including access to credit and training to improve the environment in which they operate.
