Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Governor of Ekiti State, and Abiodun Olujimi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, have pledged to work together to make the state’s international cargo airport, which is still under construction, a success.

The pair made the pledge yesterday during an on-the-spot assessment visit to the airport to determine its level of readiness for commissioning.

Fayemi, who was accompanied to the construction site by Bishop Felix Femi Ajakaiye of the Ekiti Catholic Diocese, stated that Olujimi, as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, and the state government have jointly pledged to make the lofty initiative a reality.

Olujimi, who represents Ekiti South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, praised the governor for making the airport’s vision a reality for all Ekiti indigenes.

She stated that the Senate committee would soon visit the airport as part of its oversight functions in order to determine what could be included in the next budget.

MEANWHILE, Bishop Ajakaiye, while praising the governor and senator for putting aside their political differences for the sake of their mother state’s advancement, stated, “I want to express my happiness today, because we are talking about Ekiti State interest rather than selfish or individual interest.” Even when we talk about Ado-Ekiti, Isan-Ekiti, or Omuo-Ekiti, it’s all about Ekiti. It is not about any political party; it is about our beloved state and our collective well-being.”

Fayemi, who previously stated that the agro-allied cargo airport and other legacy projects initiated by his administration would be completed before the end of his tenure, stated that the airport’s 3.2km runway was built to accommodate all types of aircraft.

He went on to say that the airport would also have space for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to conduct its own operations, as well as for maintenance and other engineering components.
