Ekiti Governor’s Appointee Resigns, Alleges Marginalisation and Poor Governance

A member of the Ekiti State Waste Management Board, Mr. Wale Ade-Oba, has resigned from his position, citing dissatisfaction with the leadership and performance of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

In a strongly worded public statement released on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, Ade-Oba accused the governor of failing to deliver meaningful development to Ekiti State despite receiving substantial financial allocations.

Ade-Oba announced his decision to sever ties with the current administration and pledged allegiance to Engineer Kayode Ojo, the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Ojo is a prominent figure in Ekiti politics and has been positioning himself as an alternative voice within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

According to Ade-Oba, Governor Oyebanji’s administration has failed to provide effective governance, alleging that the governor is frequently absent from the state and involved in vague external engagements that do not translate into developmental progress.

He stated that many communities across Ekiti, particularly his own local government area, Irepodun/Ifelodun, have not benefited from any meaningful infrastructure or policy initiatives since the current government took office. He further claimed that the governor’s leadership style has alienated core members of the APC who worked hard to ensure the party’s electoral victory.

Ade-Oba criticized the governor for allegedly favoring members of opposition parties in appointments to key positions, ignoring loyal party supporters. “Our party members are being overlooked and undervalued despite their hard work and dedication to the party’s success,” he wrote in his statement. “Instead, opposition party members who did not contribute to our victory are being appointed to key positions, while our loyal supporters are being ignored.”

The former board member expressed deep frustration over what he described as a lack of strategic direction and poor policy execution under Governor Oyebanji. He asserted that the people of Ekiti deserve a government that is both present and accountable, especially given the large allocations the state reportedly receives from the federal government.

“The administration hasn’t delivered meaningful development to many local government areas, including mine,” he said. “The governor is often out of the state, pursuing unclear agendas, and this absence is felt in the lack of productivity under the present administration. I believe it’s time for a change.”

Ade-Oba emphasized that his resignation was motivated by a desire to support what he believes to be a more competent and people-focused leadership model. He lauded Kayode Ojo’s vision for the state and expressed hope that Ojo’s approach would bring inclusive development and recognize the contributions of grassroots party members.

“Engr. Kayode Ojo’s leadership style and vision for Ekiti resonate with me,” Ade-Oba said. “I believe his administration would prioritize the needs of our people, recognize the efforts of our party members, and drive development across all local government areas.”

He concluded his statement by calling on others who are dissatisfied with the current administration to join him in working toward what he called “a brighter future” for Ekiti State.

There has been no official response from the office of Governor Biodun Oyebanji as of the time of this report. The state government has also not commented on the accusations of marginalisation or the alleged lack of development raised by the former appointee.

Ade-Oba’s resignation comes at a time of growing political tension in Ekiti, as opposition figures and internal party critics intensify their calls for greater accountability and improved governance. His public switch of allegiance to Kayode Ojo may signal a widening rift within the ruling APC in the state, with potential implications for the 2026 election cycle.

Observers will be watching closely to see how the governor’s camp responds to the resignation and whether more defections or criticisms will follow from other party insiders.
