Ekiti State Government has been urged to employ more workers in the basic healthcare facilities for the sustainability of the health system in the state.

The CBOs implementing the community component of C-19RM/RSSH grant made the call as part of their resolutions at the monthly coordination meeting, on Thursday, in Ado-Ekiti.

According to them, the basic healthcare facilities are under-staff with shortage of manpower, especially skilled workers, which has led to low productivity to meet up the needs of the masses who come in droves for basic healthcare services.

They equally charged Governor Biodun Oyebanji to prioritise the welfare of the basic healthcare workers in his administration and sought out ways to mitigate the issues that had bedeviled the healthcare system.

They described as disadvantageous the sighting of a model health facility in each ward in the state against the national model of one per LGA noting that it will be an advantage if they employ new graduates into the health facilities.

While calling on communities to sponsor training for individuals in their domain for Basic Midwifery and Community Midwifery, they resolved to continue in their drive to meet the needs of the masses at the basic levels.

Highlight of the meeting is a presentation on Basic Healthcare Provision Fund, BHCPF, and Ulerawa by a representative from BHCPF Mrs. Jayeoba L. Idowu
