The Police in Lagos has arrested two protesters during a car procession ongoing at the Lekki tollgate area of the state.

Both men were taken into a waiting truck of the Lagos State Task Force on Wednesday amid the procession organised to mark the one-year anniversary of the #EndSARS protests.

It was gathered that one of the protesters was arrested while talking to reporters who were at the tollgate to cover the procession

Speaking to reporters, one of the arrested protesters said he was assaulted by the policemen for doing nothing, adding that the Nigeria Police Force has not learnt its lessons.

The protester, identified as Okechukwu Peter, said his phone has also been seized

“I did not do anything,” said one of the young men before his arrest.

“They beat me, they collected my phone, they took my money; the police have not learnt their lessons.”

Naija News understands that before the incident, there was an altercation between some members of the press and the security officials.

Recall that the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force had announced that it will not allow any street protest in commemoration of the one-year anniversary of the #EndSARS protest.

The Command also denied that it has granted approval for any street protest in whatever form to hold tomorrow in commemoration of the #EndSARS movement.

According to a statement on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the command, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, only indoor and virtual events are permitted to hold in commemoration of the #EndSARS protest.

Ajisebutu explained that street protests could not be permitted because intelligence information says some people are planning to hijack the protest and disturb public peace.

He warned the organizers of both the pro and anti #EndSARS protests to sheath their sword as no street protest will be permitted and security operatives have been ordered to enforce the order.
