The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the arrest of Chike Ibezim, an entrepreneur, in response to a petition filed by Babatunde Fashola, the former Minister of Works.

In a statement released on Sunday, September 3, the NPF’s spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, revealed that Chike is facing allegations of “malicious publication, cyberbullying, and other related offenses.

” The statement further clarified that Chike’s detention is in compliance with a court order and not a result of speculation…

The statement reads, “Contrary to speculations, we affirm that Mr. Chike is in lawful custody based on a court order, and his detention is in connection with a prima facie case of malicious publication, cyberbullying, and other related offenses that are still under investigation by the police.”

The Nigeria Police Force emphasized its commitment to conducting arrests and detentions in accordance with legal procedures and the protection of individual rights.

In this specific case, a court order was obtained following a comprehensive investigation that established an indictment against Mr. Chike. Chike has been providing valuable information and cooperating with the police throughout their investigation.

In August, Chike was reportedly arrested by police officers in Abuja after Babatunde Fashola, the former Minister of Works, filed a petition against him regarding a report published by Chike’s elder brother, Nnamdi Ibezim.

The report alleged that Fashola was involved in drafting the presidential election tribunal verdict for judges, an accusation that Fashola vehemently denied. Subsequently, Fashola lodged a defamation complaint with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), leading to Chike’s arrest.
