Vice PresPresident Yemi Osinbajo (left)ident Yemi Osinbajo (left) with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State acknowledging cheers from jubilant traders of Abakpa Market, Enugu East Local Government Area, during the activation/launch of Tradermoni in Enugu… yesterday.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday, said 23,834 small-scale traders in Enugu State benefitted from the Trader Moni scheme of the Federal Government. He stated this during the disbursement of the money to beneficiaries in the state.

Osinbajo said the scheme was so dear to the government, adding that more money would be given out. He said that about 60 per cent of the beneficiaries were women.

“Trader Moni is very important to us. This is because, if small businesses prosper, the nation will prosper,” he said. He said the Federal Government was also providing shared facilities to business groups, as a way of encouraging economic growth.

“What this means is that, if a group of people are in one business venture, the Federal Government can provide them with some facilities to share,” Osinbajo said, adding that apart from the empowerment the scheme, the Federal Government had also assisted about 4577 traders under the Market Money Scheme.

The Vice President said beneficiaries were drawn from market associations. “Enugu State is one of the best in terms of small businesses. We have received a great support from here and our collective effort is to ensure that traders benefit from government’s programmes,” he said.

Earlier, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, commended the Federal Government for its efforts at empowering traders across the country. Ugwuanyi said various government’s empowerment schemes would help to curb crime and insecurity.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Mariah Nnamani, thanked the Federal Government for its kind gesture. Nnamani requested the Federal Government to stop the importation of frozen foods so as to help their ventures.
