Former Liverpool midfielder, Danny Murphy has named Manchester United’s Raphael Varane and Reds’ Virgil van Dijk as the two best centre-backs in the English Premier League, EPL.
Murphy also said that Arsenal’s William Saliba is the next defender to take over from Van Dijk and Varane.
“Reports of Virgil van Dijk’s demise were always greatly exaggerated,” Murphy told the Daily Mail.
“He remains the best centre-half in the Premier League alongside Raphael Varane, with William Saliba at Arsenal looking like the next one to take over.
He added, “He [Van Dijk] was great last season when Liverpool had the joint-best defensive record in the Premier League with Manchester City.”
Van Dijk joined Liverpool from Southampton back in 2018, while Varane joined Man United from Real Madrid in 2021
