Former Tottenham Hotspur manager, Tim Sherwood, has hit out at Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag over his recent comments on forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
Sherwood said that Ten Hag should keep his mouth shut for suggesting that Ronaldo is the club’s fifth-choice captain.
Ronaldo was named Man United captain in their Premier League 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday.
The 37-year-old took the captain’s armband in the absence of midfielder Bruno Fernandes, who was suspended for the match, and defender Harry Maguire, who started on the substitutes bench.
Speaking after the match at Villa Park, Ten Hag explained the current ranking of captains at Man United, saying: “Harry Maguire is on the bench, our captain of the club. Then it is about David de Gea, who is a leader but is a goalie and is far away from the outfield.
