Mohammed Oluwatimileyin Taoheed reports,

The organizers of the Izon Music Festival, Sqilful Konseptz, have revealed that the festival is introduced to promote ethnic harmony and unify all people indigenous to the Ijaw extraction.

Mr. Victor Binawari, the promoter said, “We as the Ijaw people have a very rich cultural heritage but unfortunately, it has not been properly explored over the years. There is no unifying point where all these indigenous musicians and cultural dancers come together to display their natural talents to promote the culture and language.”

Boasting of the rich cultural heritage of his people, he noted that they have a wonderful music genre that drives joy into the hearts of many at funerals, traditional marriages, birthdays and political events.

Binawari added that the event which is been packaged by Sqilful Konseptz, an entertainment outfit that has successfully organized ten editions of the Bayelsa Media Awards, a brand that has honoured numerous distinguished personalities including the former President of Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State amongst others, promised to deliver a top notch event that will eventually open a new vista of opportunities in tourism and economy of the region owing to the fact that the ijaw ethnic nationality is the fourth largest in the country.

He stressed that the event is not political but a rallying point for all Ijaw people and open to sponsorship from anyone or corporate bodies that are interested.

While speaking with Mr. Mohammed Oluwatimileyin Taoheed, our National Correspondent, in a telephone conversation today, the organizer hoped that the ijaw people scattered across most states of the Niger Delta and beyond will welcome the idea and turn out en masse to celebrate the rich cultural heritage the Ijaws are known for..
