The Police Service Commission (PSC) has endorsed the suspension of Abba Kyari over a report by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Kyari, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, headed the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Force.

Earlier on Sunday, the Inspector General, Usman Baba announced his temporary removal from office.

Kyari is in trouble for alleged dealings with Ramon Abbas popularly known as Hushpuppi.

Unsealed documents linked him with questionable funds wired by the suspected fraudster facing trial in the United States of America.

Kyari, among others, is accused of collecting bribes from Hushpuppi to arrest and detain a gang member over a fraud deal worth millions of dollars.

In a statement, Ikechukwu Ani, PSC Head of Public Relations, said Kyari’s suspension took effect from July 31, 2021.

This would subsist pending the outcome of the investigation of his indictment by the FBI.

The commission also directed IGP Baba to communicate developments as they unfold.

The PSC decision, conveyed in a letter with reference PSC/POL/D/153/vol/V/138 to Baba, was signed by Hon. Justice Clara Ogunbiyi on behalf of the Chairman, Musiliu.

Smith, a retired IGP, is currently on leave. Ogunbiyi, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, is a Commissioner in the PSC.
