Mr Julius Haruna, the North-West Zonal Director of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), was killed during a fight in his Katsina office.

Haruna died in the office on Wednesday, August 17, after a fight with Ms. Muibat Abdusalam, another commission employee. Ms Abdusalam was apprehended by Katsina State Police command officers who were investigating the death of the Director, Tam Tamunokonbia, the Secretary of the Governing Board of the FCCPC said in a statement on Tuesday, August 23.

Tam Tamunokonbia also stated that the agency has established its own investigative committee. Tamunokonbia confirmed that the panel will investigate the circumstances surrounding Haruna’s death. He also stated that the board had directed the immediate but temporary removal of relevant leadership and operatives from the commission in order to ensure a fair, transparent, and credible investigation.

Tamunokonbia announced that Dr Ben Nwoye, a legal practitioner and board member, had been named chairman of the Independent Internal Investigation Panel. He also stated that retired AVM Wakili Ahmed, another board member, was appointed as a co-chairman of the panel.
