17-year-old girl who filmed George Floyd’s death to be awarded for her bravery
A 17-year-old girl who recorded the brutal killing of George Floyd that led to a worldwide movement against police brutality will be awarded for her bravery.
PEN America announced on Tuesday, October 27, that it would be honouring Darnella Frazier with the annual PEN/Benenson Courage Award.
The organisations CEO Suzanne Nossel tweeted that had it not been for her presence of mind and readiness to risk her own safety, the truth behind Floyd’s death would not have been known.
Among the unsung heroes of 2020 is 17-year old Darnella Frazier, who recorded the video of George Floyd’s murder and sparked a global movement for justice. Join @PENamerica in celebrating her at our Gala in December 8! Unsung no longer. https://t.co/ZeMeR5URr6

Darnella Frazier, who is only 17, showed so much courage in May as she documented George Floyd’s unjustifiable MURDER. Darnella will receive the 2020 PEN/Beneson Award on Dec. 8 for her courageous act. Well deserved!! https://t.co/ndpUKNxtQ2
