All 325 delegates elect Speaker Dogara as PDP candidate ahead of 2019 election

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, was on Wednesday, October 3, elected as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa-Balewa Federal Constituency in Bauchi state.

Dogara was elected by all the 325 delegates from the constituency ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Tribune reports that all the constituency party delegates unanimously affirmed Dogara as the sole candidate of the APC during the party’s primaries held in Zwall town of Tafawa Balewa local government of the state.

Conducting the exercise, the returning officer of the party, Esther Ahmed-Kadala asked the respective delegates from the three local governments that make up the federal constituency a question and they unanimously answered in the affirmative.

Declaring Dogara as the winner of the primaries, Ahmed-Kadala said the Speakers position have been confirmed through voice affirmation.

She added that the constitution of the party provided that where there is a sole aspirant for any position, the delegates must affirm it through voice.

While congratulating Dogara for his emergence as sole candidate for the constituency, the returning officer also commended the delegates for their orderly conduct during the primaries.

Meanwhile, TRACK NEWS previously reported that the Speaker had reportedly picked up PDP nomination form.

Dogara picked up the form on Wednesday, September 12.

Although he has not officially left the All Progressives Congress (APC), there has been report that the speaker has been making moves to join the PDP.

A member of the National Working Committee of the party, who spoke with Sahara Reporters on condition of anonymity, said that the speaker had picked the forms.
