Boko Haram: Army denies knowledge of Chibok girls escape as parents, Kibakwu community lament
The Kibakwu community have reacted to the news of the escape of some Chibok schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram terrorists from a Government Secondary School Borno, in 2014.
The community members also raised concern that the purported escape of the girls was only a fluke which has raised and dashed their hopes at the same time.
Kibakwu is a community in Chibok local government area of Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.
A member of the Kibakwu Association, Bulus Abana told DAILY POST in Maiduguri, that their hopes were raised when the news of the girls’ escape filtered in.
“Some of our relations whose children are among the 112 still missing school girls have arrived in Maiduguri with the hope of meeting with these girls, but were told there is no such information about the girls escaping and we are all worried now.” He said.
Another personality of the Chibok community, Dr. Allen Mannessah, who is also a strong voice in the #BringBackOurGirls (BBOG) told DAILY POST that it was unfortunate that the military is toying with such information.
“At least if there is such information, we are supposed to have it first hand. But in their usual character, the military will be hoarding information and playing with people’s emotions before releasing the information when people have been exhausted.” Dr. Allen said when he spoke with our correspondent on the phone.
Meanwhile, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Headquarters, Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri, Maji. Gen. Abdul I. Khalifa had denied knowledge of any Chibok girl escaping from the Sambisa forest.
Khalifa had told newsmen in Maiduguri, that he was not privy to any news of the escape of the girls as seen in the media.
“As GOC of 7 Div, I have no information about any escaped Chibok girls and I should know if there are any. But we are still pressing on, they will come out. However, some Boko haram criminals and their wives are surrendering. Some of the criminals and their families came out from Banki junction general area and are being investigated”.
Malam Ali Maiyanga, who earlier spoke with Human Rights Lawyer, Emmanuel Ogebe was also contacted on phone by DAILY POST, he had promised to call back our reporter but never did so.
“I am currently attending to some military officials who came to us. I will get back to you as soon as we are done.” Ali Maiyanga had said.
According to him, he had earlier spoken with his daughter, whom he claimed was among the escaped Chibok girls.
Recall that in 2016, one of his daughters Maryam Ali Maiyanga was rescued by the Nigerian military but her sibling was said to have been with the terrorists since their abduction six years and nine months at the last count.
