BREAKING: 3 Imo lawmakers dump APGA, join PDP

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) on Tuesday, June 18, suffered a major setback as three of its newly elected lawmakers in Imo state dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Daily Trust reports that the lawmakers – Chyna Iwuanyanwu, Chidi Ogbunikpa and Onyemaechi Njoku, who represent Nwangele, Okigwe and Ihitte Uboma state constituencies respectively – were all elected under the platform of APGA at the 2019 general election.

With the defection of the lawmakers, APGA now has only one lawmaker in the state assembly.

Speaking on their defection, the lawmakers said the move was aimed at enabling them serve their constituents better.

Also the speaker, Chiji Collins read the lawmakers individuals letters indicating their defection at the floor of the Imo state House of Assembly.

Meanwhile, tracknews.ng previously reported that an appeal court sitting in Owerri, the capital of Imo state, on Sunday, June 16, granted victory to Governor Ihedioha over a suit filed against his emergence as the candidate of the PDP in the last election.

The appeal court upheld the ruling of a Federal High Court which had dismissed a suit filed by Senator Sam Anyanwu concerning Ihedioha’s candidacy.

Anyanwu had approached the court to nullify the victory of the governor.

He also wanted to be declared as the authentic winner of the primary election conducted by the PDP ahead of the election.
