Breaking: Delta extends stay-at-home for another two weeks

TRACKING___The Delta state governor Mr. Okowa has just announced that the stay-at-home order in Delta State will be extended for another two weeks.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buharion Monday extended the lockdown on Lagos, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), by two weeks as the Federal Governments to intensify the war against the Coronavirus pandemic.

Buhari, in a nationwide broadcast on Monday in Abuja, said that the two additional weeks had become necessary to contain the spread of the virus that had manifested in 19 states and the FCT.

Buhari first ordered a total lockdown of the trio on Monday, March 30, 2020. This lasted for two expired on Monday, April 13.

“The compliance to the stay-at-home order has been generally good, but we need to make more sacrifices to save lives.

“We understand the pains of remaining at home for two more weeks, but this is a critical time and we cannot afford to relax on the war against the coronavirus pandemic,” he said.

Buhari urged Nigerians to adhere to the medical protocol toward avoiding contact with the disease, and particularly emphasised the need to observe social distancing.

Also on Monday the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said that the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country had risen to 343, following 20 confirmed new cases from five states.

The 20 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded from Lagos -13, Edo -2, Kano -2, Ogun -2 and Ondo -1.

Lagos remains the epicentre with 189, while FCT has 56 cases, 20 in Osun, 14 in Edo, 11 in Oyo, 11 in Bauchi and Kaduna.

Akwa Ibom 6, Kastina 5, Kwara 4, Ogun 9, Kano 3, 2 each in Enugu, Ekiti, Delta, Ondo and Rivers, and one each in Benue, Niger, and Anambra.
