BREAKING: INEC presents National Register of Voters to political parties
The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has presented the National Register of Voters to all the registered political parties ahead of the general elections.
Track News gathers that the official total number of registered voters is: 84,004,084. (Eighty Four Million, Four Thousand, and Eighty Four).
The register was presented at the quarterly consultative meeting with political parties in Abuja.
Meanwhile, barely five weeks to the start of this year’s general election, INEC has said about eight million would-be voters are yet to pick up their Permanent Voters Card (PVC).
This was disclosed by one of INEC’s national commissioner, Mohammed Lecky, during an interview with THISDAY on Saturday, January 5.
His words: “There is no state in the country where we have achieved 100% distribution of PVC. The distribution of PVC is the biggest headache for us.
“We need the media to help us encourage the people to come and collect their PVCs. People are not coming forward to pick their PVCs. We have about eight million PVCs yet to be collected by Nigerians.”
Lecky also expressed concern about the media becoming a conveyor of fake news in Nigeria.
