– Cristiano Ronaldo will be challenged for the Uefa goal of the season award by Sunderland star Elliot Embleton

– Embleton was nominated for the award as a result of the goal he scored for England against Turkey in July

– Ronaldo on the other hand scored a brilliant goal for Real Madrid against Juventus in the Champions League

Sunderland midfielder Elliot Embleton will now challenge Juventus’ forward Cristiano Ronaldo for the Uefa goal of the season award after being nominated.

The 19-year-old Englishman was nominated for the Uefa best goal award because of his stunner for England against Turkey in July’s Under-19 Euros.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s overhead kick for Real Madrid against Juventus in the Champions League quarter-finals gets him nominated for the award.

“It’s really unbelievable to be nominated alongside the best player in the world. He has won five Ballon d’Ors and I’m just starting out, I am very proud.

“I remember watching his goal against Juventus as it happened and I would never have imagined one of my goals would be going up against his.

“His goal is next level, but I wouldn’t say mine is too far behind. If all my friends and family vote for me, maybe I might just tip it,” Embleton explained according to UK Sun.

Embleton’s strike sealed victory for the Young Lions in their opening group match in Finland as he cut in and curled home from 20 yards.

Earlier, TRACK NEWS had reported how broadcasting giants Eleven Sports announced on Monday, August 6, that Cristiano Ronaldo’s first game for reigning Italian champions Juventus will be shown live on Facebook free of charge.

According to the report, Eleven Sports are ready to show at least one match per week from both Serie A and La Liga on their UK Facebook after entering partnership with the social media company.
