THE Federal Government in partnership with the United States embassy is set to fight against Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and human trafficking with drama skits.

The FG said that the unveiling of the skits to the public will create better awareness of the problems of human trafficking and SGBV as well as the challenges faced by victims.

The drama skits which were put together by DEVATOP as part of its DEVATOP/TALKAM project are sponsored by the US mission in Nigeria and the actors are from National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP)’s drama club.

The Director General of the agency, Dr. Fatima Waziri-Azi, said over the years, performing arts or drama has been found to be a veritable prevention strategy in counter trafficking and migrant smuggling because drama is entertaining and educating just as it is used to mirror the society.

She added, “The Importance of drama and skits in creating awareness on any issue including human trafficking and SGBV cannot be over emphasised. They are very powerful tools in changing behaviours as well as selling only idea to the people.

“It is also my hope that when these skits hit the air waves and social media space, many of the silent victims who will see them will be bold enough to break the culture of silence and speak out.”

Executive Director, Devatop Centre for Africa Development l, Joseph Osuigwe, said as part of the TALKAM human rights project, DEVATOP collaborated with NAPTIP to produce two short films which portrayed the dangers of human trafficking and gender based violence seeking to break the culture of silence by encouraging viewers to report incidences.
