On Monday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Taraba State, Emmanuel Bwacha, presented a brand new Mercedes Benz to the state’s former governor, Jolly Nyame.
According to the Tracknews , Bwacha gave the former governor the car shortly after he was released from the correctional facility.
Nyame, who had been imprisoned for crimes ranging from misappropriation of public funds to embezzlement, was released on Monday.
The former Taraba State Governor was released alongside former Plateau State Governor Joshua Dariye.
Former Governors were released from detention a few months after President Muhammadu Buhari pardoned them.
Nyame was sentenced to 12 years in prison for diverting N1.64 billion during his tenure as Taraba governor, while Dariye was sentenced to 10 years for N1.126 billion fraud.
The decision of the Taraba South senatorial district lawmaker to present the car gift to Nyame has elicited mixed reactions.
Some praised the APC governorship candidate for acting so quickly after Nyame was released from the correctional facility.
Others pointed out that the money used to buy the car would have gone a long way if it had been distributed to people in his district.
