Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

LAGOS—A boat capsized in transit in Lagos on Sunday, killing all four passengers, three of whom were from the same family.

The victims, who have yet to be identified, were said to be cruising to their destination when the strong current swept the boat away before it capsized.

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly confirmed this on Monday while condoling with the families of those who died in the accident.

The representative of Kosofe Constituency II, Femi Saheed, described the incident as “unfortunate” while raising a ‘Matter of Urgent Public Importance’ during a sitting presided over by the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.

According to Saheed, “four people were killed, three of whom were from the same family.” It is a tragedy we must never repeat.”

Meanwhile, the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, reported yesterday that two people were killed and four others were injured in an accident involving a commercial bus, a truck, and a motorcycle near Conoil Bus-Stop on the Lagos-Abeokuta highway.

Mrs Temitope Oseni, the TRACE Owode-Ijako Unit Commander who confirmed the incident, told Ota that the unfortunate incident occurred at around 10:03 p.m. on Monday.

Oseni explained that a Daf blue truck with the number plate AAA 094 XT was speeding from Sango-Ota to Abeokuta when it developed brake failure and collided with a commercial Mazda bus with the number plate FKJ 509 XX and a Bajaj motorcycle with the number plate FFF 416 XY.

She stated that six people were involved in the crash, in which two people died and four others were injured.

“The bodies of the victims were taken to State Hospital, Ota, while the survivors are being treated there.”

Oseni warned motorists to avoid speeding and dangerous driving in order to save lives and property.

She also advised them to always make sure their vehicles were in good working order before putting them on the road to avoid mishaps.
