From ‘Kaki to Landlord’: Housing Advocate Unveils Affordable Land Plan for Corps Members

Dr. Mrs. Ahiaba Naomi, Managing Director/CEO of Praisefit Ventures Ltd (PVL), has announced a housing initiative targeted at members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), aimed at helping them become property owners before completing their service year.

Naomi disclosed the plan while speaking at the maiden edition of Housing Matters Meet & Greet 1.0, held in Abuja and organised by 208 Media through its flagship platform, Housing Matters.

The event brought together developers, agents, clients, policy influencers, investors, mortgage providers, building material suppliers, and other players across the real estate value chain to address Nigeria’s estimated 25 million housing deficit.

Dr Naomi was honoured at the event with the Housing Advocacy and Policy Champion Award for her contributions to the housing sector.

According to Naomi, the Kaki to Landlord scheme offers affordable land packages designed specifically for corps members, at ₦999,000 thousand naira. Payments can be made in instalments over a period of 18 months to two years.

“The idea is to help young people start their property journey early,” she said. “our idea is for an average Nigerian between the ages of 25 and 40 should own their own home and stop paying rent.”

She explained that the focus on land ownership was deliberate because of its long-term value.
“Properties appreciate over time. A plot bought at ₦1 million today could be worth ₦5 to ₦6 million in just two years. By the time these young people conclude their National service and get jobs, they will already own land and can focus on building instead of renting,” Naomi stated.

The initiative is currently being rolled out outside NYSC orientation camps to enable corps members to engage after being posted to their primary assignments. Naomi added that some corps members have already enrolled.

She expressed interest in partnering with the NYSC and called on the government to support the project through land allocation.
“If the government can allocate some land, we can manage it and make sure it reaches a larger number of corps members,” she said.

The Housing Matters Meet & Greet, convened by Engineer Elizabeth Ebere Obioma and Adamu Deco Suleman, emphasised rebuilding trust between developers, agents, and buyers as a crucial step toward bridging the country’s housing gap.

The event also featured a raffle draw in which a chef, Maxwell Onyebuchi Chimremeze, won a plot of land worth ₦2 million, and presentations of awards to other housing sector contributors.
