FRSC speaks on its Directive on Vehicle Impoundment

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has clarified a directive issued to its commanding officers that was misinterpreted as a ban on the impoundment of vehicles.

TrackNews Media reports that the FRSC spokesman, Bisi Kazeem, in a statement on Thursday, said the directive only banned the practice of placing patrol operatives in the vehicles of offenders during impoundment.

Kazeem said the original directive was issued in a memo dated September 12, 2023, with the title “Immediate ban on the placing of staff in offenders vehicles to escort for impoundment.”

He said the memo was misinterpreted as a complete ban on the impoundment of vehicles, but that the corps marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, only banned the practice of placing staff in offenders’ vehicles.

“The corps marshal regrets any confusion caused by the earlier memo, and would like to inform the public that the current position of the corps is as outlined in the corrected directive,” Kazeem said.

He added that the FRSC will continue to impound vehicles that violate traffic laws.
